Obituary of Scott M. Corter Sr.

Scott Michael Corter Sr., aged 55, passed away on October 15, 2024 in Georgetown, SC.  Born on August 20, 1969, Scott was known for his vibrant personality, marked by a great sense of humor and a readiness to lend a helping hand.  He was a central figure in his community, dedicating over 30 years to volunteer service, notably as Chief and Assistant Chief of the West Milford Fire Department, and as a volunteer for Pine Island Ambulance Corps, the Pine Island Fire Department, Greenwood Forest Fire Company and Warwick Excelsior Hose Company. Notably, Scott was also a volunteer during the tragic events of 9/11, demonstrating his courage and selflessness.

 

Scott leaves behind his wife, Laurie Corter, and their children, Brittney Corter (Christopher Cardona), Tiffany Corter, Darlene Corter, Scott Corter (Shaunisty Galanakis), Matthew Corter (Gabrielle Wessels), Amber Corter and Daniel Corter. He was a proud grandfather to Austin, Kylie, Jamie, Ayden, Aleena, Colton, Kayden, Ariana, Hunter, Clair and Achilles. His siblings, Dawn Frawley (Floyd Frawley) and James “Jimmy” Corter III, along with several nephews, Robert, Cameron, Josh and Chris; niece, Jamie and numerous cousins.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, James David Corter Jr. and Shirley Ann McGrady Corter and his brother, Larry Corter.  Scott’s legacy of love and laughter will live on through the many lives he touched. His beloved dog, Brandy also preceded him in death, marking the loss of a true companion.

 

His hobbies were as vibrant and diverse as his personality. An avid outdoorsman, Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding snowmobiles in Old Forge and Tug Hill. Scott cherished playing golf and softball with his firefighter brothers, always ensuring he was the life of the party. His extensive involvement in various volunteer roles highlighted his commitment to protecting and serving his community.

 

Scott’s legacy of kindness, humor and community service will continue to inspire those who knew him. His life reminds us of the impact one individual have on the lives of many.
