Ruth Seward Bell Tarvin, of Englewood, FL, formerly of Warwick, NY, entered into rest on Monday, September 6, 2010. She was 94.
The daughter of the late DeWitt Clinton Seward & Almeda Sly Seward, she was born on June 25, 1916 in New Paltz, NY.
She was teacher for many years with the Warwick Valley Central School District. Ruth was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and the Altar Guild. Member of the Arethusa Society of New Paltz, and a former member of the Warwick Valley Country Club and the Myaka Pines Country Club in Englewood, FL.
She touched the lives of many children in Warwick as a teacher of kindergarten and first grade. A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed her crossword puzzles and watching the Yankees.
Ruth was a direct decendent of William Henry Seward, who served on Abraham Lincoln’s Cabinet as his Secretary of State. One of Seward’s greatest accomplishments was the purchase of Alaska in 1867.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Bell of New Hyde Park, NY, daughter, Deborah Scheuermann & husband Roland of Warwick, son, Donald Bell & wife Darci of Crossville, TN, Barbara Pratt of Texas and Peter Tarvin of Pennsylvania. Grandchildren, Bonnie and Sandy Scheuermann, Michael Bell, Krista Strathie & husband Doug, Karyn Ahwai & husband Shane, Lauren McElroy & husband Bobby, Lisa Thomas & husband Jonathan, Michael and Tina Tarvin, Keith and Brenda Tarvin, Tammy and Chris Stevens, Donald Light & Stephanie. Great grandchildren, Bobby III and Katie Jo McElroy, Kaitlyn Strathie, Molly and Kelty Tarvin, Regan Tarvin, Hailey, Hunter and Heather Stevens. Several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husbands, Isaac Newton “Ike” Bell and Cleo Tarvin and granddaughter, Jennifer Ruth Bell.
There will be no visitation.
A burial and graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family.
