Obituary of Sophie Helene Kurnath

Sophie Helene Kurnath of Warwick, NY, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Schervier Pavilion, Warwick. She was 97. The daughter of the late Jacobus & Anna Kowalczyk Wojcik, she was born on March 21, 1916 in Marstellar, PA. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Kurnath & wife Catherine of Warwick, NY; Grandson, Daniel Kurnath of Warwick and granddaughter, Caitlin Kurnath of Warwick; 2 sisters, Julie Anszperger of Medfield, MA and Irene Lewandowski of Garfield, NJ. Many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Emil Francis Kurnath. Sophie grew up in Garfield, NJ, where she attended St. Stanislaus School. In the 1930's and 1940's she played basketball for the school and church girl's teams. Sophie was a great sister to her 3 brothers and 7 sisters. She loved her grandchildren Dan & Caitlin. She was a great mother to her son Larry, and to his wife Cathy. She was a beloved aunt to her many nephews and nieces. She loved her husband Emil and enjoyed playing golf with him during their retirement in Florida, where she recorded a hole-in-one at the Indian Creek Golf Club. She was a good neighbor, and a good friend to all in Garfield, Clifton, East Paterson and Jupiter, and will be sorely missed by all that knew her. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held 1:00PM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Church, Pine Island, NY.
